Free First Saturday: Turtles, Snakes and Scaly Surprises

Join a Dunwoody Nature Center educator for a fascinating, family-friendly exploration of the snakes, turtles, and lizards that call our state home. From the majestic box turtle ambling through the woods to the elusive rat snake silently controlling rodent populations, we’ll discover why these often-misunderstood creatures are vital to Georgia’s ecosystems.

This free, interactive program separates reptile fact from fiction, explores incredible adaptations like shedding skin and unhinging jaws, and highlights the important roles reptiles play as both predator and prey. The highlight of the day? A chance to meet some of our live reptile ambassadors up close, learning how to observe and appreciate them safely and respectfully.
