One of the components of our Milkweed Project is educational outreach. The staff of the Dunwoody Nature Center collaborates with local elementary schools to educate them about the declining monarch butterfly population and the importance of the native milkweed plant. The Milkweed in the Classroom program includes outreach lessons, an opportunity to grow milkweed plants from seeds, and the installation of a monarch and milkweed-specific pollinator garden at the school.
We offer the following outreach lessons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students. We can adapt these lessons to other grades as well.
