Yoga Stretch | OWLS Adult Programming, Afternoon Session

It’s time to grab a chair, go outside and discover the combination of physical and mental exercises that for thousands of years have hooked yoga practitioners around the globe. Yoga has the power to calm the mind and strengthen the body.  Meditation and stretching will be incorporated into a chair yoga class, all while you are outside enjoying nature.

“Why Natives?” Virtual Panel Discussion

The Georgia Native Plant Society, in partnership with the Nature Center, will host a virtual panel discussion this Sunday, September 20, 2:00 – 3:30 PM. Local experts, including our own Holly Loscavio, will share information and resources on why and how to use native plants in our home gardens. Learn how you can foster a diverse and balanced food web that supports birds, butterflies and other pollinators.

The Healing Woods | OWLS Adult Programming, Morning Session

Come discover the wisdom of the woods. Discuss and explore the medicinal virtues of the plants and trees with which we share this land. Closely examine plants and trees on a short walk, discuss historical and modern day uses of some of the more common plants of this area and learn how to prepare your own plant-based remedies at home using plants and trees from your garden, yard and woods.

Vaccines and Public Health | OWLS Adult Programming, Afternoon Session

This class will explore the role vaccines have played in societal and health development. Issues to be discussed include whether vaccines cause autism, what is herd immunity, and just how important is the flu shot. Come learn about how vaccines have been a cornerstone for healthcare and what their prevalent use has meant for medicine.
