Wildlife at Dunwoody Nature Center

Below you'll find a list of the wildlife sighted at Dunwoody Park by visitors and employees

Join us in identifying the wild creatures around us. Let us know at the office if you see an animal not on the list — we will add it to our "official" roster of animals after a few sightings. There are over 40 different animals on our list already. Keep looking, you never know what you might see!

Barred OwlThe Barred Owl in the photo at left was photographed at Dunwoody Park. Their nocturnal call of "who cooks for youuuuuu, who cooks for you aaaaaaaall" rings out over the park in the evening.

redtailedhawk

This Red-Tailed Hawk was so focused on his prey that he ignored our program manager as she walked within ten feet to get this shot. That's one cool predator!

snappingturtle

Donna Burt and Andy Burt snapped this pix of an Alligator Snapping Turtle now residing in the wetlands around our treehouse. (If you see him, please don't lob things to get his attention. He actually doesn't like plastic bottles and baseballs!)

coopershawk

Junior photographer Ryan Hicks spied a Cooper's Hawk soaring above and captured this regal pose when it alit in a nearby tree.

bunnies

When our Master Gardener volunteers cleared the kitchen garden, they discovered two baby bunnies hiding within the early Spring greenery. We had to take some pictures, but left them alone - Mama Bunny was likely very close by and ready to shepherd her babies to another location!
